Discover the Centre of La Teste de Buch

As you walk in the centre of the town, you cannot miss some old and remarkables buildings : the St Vincent Church, the Hôtel Lalanne (public library), the Maison Verthamon (former City Hall)…

Monuments

Eglise St Vincent : At the end of the XIVe century, this church was the Chapel of the Captalcy of Buch. It is the shelter of many classified objects : Chapel of the virgin, marble baptistery,... Hôtel Lalanne : It was the house of many famous La Teste de Buch's families. It was owned by Jean Hameau's son then by Pierre Lesca before Lalanne Family which gave it its name. In 1928 the town inherited the house. Nowadays the building is home to the public library.

Places

Place Jean Hameau used to be the heart of the medieval village of La Teste de Buch. It losts its importance with time in favor of other places like place Thiers or Place Gambetta. the name of those places have changed through the centuries. For example Place Jean Hameau was once named : Place Labi, place Marat, Place de Tournon ansd Place de Peyjehan

Jean Hameau (1779-1851)

Jean Hameau, is without a doubt one of the most famous people in the town's history. Former La Teste de Buch mayor, his statue has a prominent location in the place which was given his name. Born in La Teste de Buch, he studied medicine in Paris and was a precursor in domains such as contagious diseases. He was the first one to think about vaccines, 50 years before Pasteur.
