This coastal resort was created in 1915 thanks to the ambition of one man, Daniel Meller.
He decided to exchange a vast stretch of land near Lac de Cazaux for several hectares of state-owned forest situated between Le Moulleau and the Dune du Pilat. The transaction was considered highly unfavourable at the time.
However, thanks to the automobile boom, the growth of tourism and the help of a builder named Louis Gaume, Mr. Meller’s project met with success. Pyla sur Mer is now the place to be, with its Atlantic beaches, sports activities and numerous events – not forgetting the famous Dune du Pilat.
