PYLA SUR MER

STORY OF PYLA SUR MER

IT WAS IN 1915 THAT THE SEASIDE RESORT CAME INTO BEING, THANKS TO THE AMBITION OF ONE MAN, DANIEL MELLER.

He decided to exchange hectares of land near the Lac de Cazaux for hectares of state-owned forest between the Moulleau and the Dune du Pilat, an operation that was considered highly unfavourable at the time.

However, the rise of the motor car, the development of tourism and the help of a manufacturer named Louis Gaume made Mr Meller’s project a success. Pyla sur Mer is now the must-visit district of La Teste de Buch, with its ocean beaches, sporting and festive activities, not forgetting the famous Dune du Pilat!
